When Ryan Lammers (guitar/production) and Dean Sinclair (drums) hastily threw a band together one January afternoon for a battle of the bands that same evening, they had little expectation of winning. But, when they did, it only made sense to keep playing. After several years of lineup changes and relentlessly playing indie rock covers at suburban street festivals, August Hotel was rounded out in spring 2016 by Joe Padilla (vocals), Craig Schwartz, Jr (keyboards), and Cale Singleton (bass).
The past year has been a steady rise for the Chicago-based quintet. Their propensity for merging euphoric dancefloor synthpop with reflective bedroom indie rock manifested in the lineup’s self-produced debut single “12AM.” Shortly after its release, “12AM” received airplay on Chicago’s 101WKQX and was declared “an indie pop giant” and "one of the coolest things that we’ve ever seen or heard" by London’s Killing Moon, who later featured the song on their compilation New Moons, Vol. VII. August Hotel has been seen opening for the likes of The Kickback and Knox Hamilton, as well as headlining several clubs around Chicago and the Midwest. The beginning of 2017 finds the band in the studio, wrapping production on their upcoming EP. August Hotel is - in the words of Vox Magazine - “a band on the cusp of a breakthrough journey."
